Information Security Officer

Sacramento Area Sewer District

Catherine Wild is the Information Security Officer (ISO) for the Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer). SacSewer is the second largest sewage collection utility in California, and they own and operate the second largest water resource recovery facility of its kind in the nation. Catherine’s responsibilities include developing and maturing all aspects of SacSewer’s security program for control systems and business information systems.

Catherine established and continues hosting the quarterly ICS Security Sharing Group for control systems staff from affiliated government agencies to discuss and share information, knowledge, and ideas for improving their ICS security maturity.

With growing interest from others in joining SacSewer’s quarterly meetings, the Water/Wastewater ICS Security Forum—known today as the Critical Infrastructure Security Forum (CISF)—was developed to include a broader group of other interested critical infrastructure sectors on an annual basis. The last forum (3rd annual) hosted just over 300 attendees.

Catherine was invited to join the State’s Cyber Security Symposium’s advisory board by the State’s CISO in 2014. She also recommended, developed, and emceed the ICS/SCADA track for multiple years for the State’s Symposium. Additionally, she was elected for the Award of Excellence - Security Leadership in Local Government. She has also enjoyed being active in various MS-ISAC’s groups to contribute back to the community.

Prior to her current role in Information Security, she was the Technical Support Section Manager for SacSewer, leading IT, Graphical Information Systems (GIS), Document Management, CAD Design, and Data Management teams.

Catherine holds a Bachelor’s degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics. Hired as a programmer/analyst for Sacramento County Public Works, her achievements included not only applications programming and networking but also implementations of many emerging technologies at the time (e.g. TCP/IP networks, document management, GIS, sewer maintenance management, fleet management, Underground Service Alert ticket management, VOIP phones, video conferencing).
