CIS Benchmarks August 2022 Update

The following CIS Benchmarks have been updated or recently released. We've highlighted the major updates below. Each Benchmark includes a full changelog that references all changes.

CIS Microsoft Windows 10 Stand-alone Benchmark v1.0.0

This is a new Benchmark based on the CIS Windows 10 Enterprise Benchmark. It is specifically tailored for systems that are not a member of a Microsoft Domain.

Modifications from the starting point include:

  • Removed 33 Domain-focused recommendations
  • Modified several recommendations and tailored them for a Workgroup system
  • Provided detailed guidance on Local Group Policy Object (LGPO) usage

CIS IBM Db2 11 Benchmark v1.0.0

We are excited to announce the first-time release for this Benchmark.

Thanks to the CIS IBM Db2 Community and IBM for their help with this effort, and special thanks to Andrea Ott, Greg Stager, and Paul Bird.

Three Updated CIS Apple macOS Benchmarks

We released the following CIS Benchmarks for Apple macOS this month:

  • CIS Apple macOS 10.15 Catalina Benchmark v2.1.0
  • CIS Apple macOS 11.0 Big Sur Benchmark v2.1.0
  • CIS Apple macOS 12.0 Monterey Benchmark v1.1.0

Major changes for the Benchmarks include:

  • Added the first guidance for Apple Silicon Macs
  • Removed several recommendations that were no longer applicable
  • Updated several audits and remediations to give more complete guidance to our users
  • Added mobile profile configurations to several recommendations that previously did not have the guidance

CIS Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (non-R2) Benchmark v3.3.0

Here is a brief glimpse of what we did to improve the value of this Benchmark:

  • Moved, added, and renamed several sections due to updated ADMX templates
  • Added eight new settings
  • Updated three settings
  • Moved three settings
  • Renamed one setting
  • Removed one setting
