Local engagement helps shape state cybersecurity efforts

Trusted partnerships, local engagement, and open communication are essential to building effective whole-of-state cybersecurity programs. At the ISAC Annual Summit, cybersecurity leaders from several states discussed how involving local governments early, working through trusted networks, and respecting local autonomy can strengthen statewide cyber resilience. Karen Sorady, Vice President of Strategy and Plans for the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), described whole-of-state cybersecurity as a coordinated effort to address shared cyber risks across state and local government, education, and other key stakeholders. The discussion reinforced the importance of sustained engagement, trusted partnerships, and collaborative decision-making in helping governments strengthen defenses and improve cybersecurity outcomes across their communities.
