FBI and IC3 Public Service Announcement: Hacktivists Threaten to Target Missouri Law Enforcement Officials

The Center for Internet Security (CIS) is sharing a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) Public Service Announcement regarding potential cyber activity relating to the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

 

Anonymous announced a call to initiate cyber attacks against all Missouri officers and police agencies. Police agencies should be aware of the increased risk of cyber-based attacks. Attacks can be precipitated by someone scanning networks or opening infected emails containing malicious attachments or links. With this in mind, officers should be aware of their online presence and exposure as hacking collectives are effective at leveraging open source, publicly available information identifying officers, their employers, and their families.
