The Center for Internet Security - Trademark, Logo, and Corporate Name Usage Guidelines

  1. Authorization - CIS Trademarks, Logos, and Corporate Name may not be utilized by any third pary absent CIS' express written permission.

  2. Scope of Authorization - CIS's consent, either by written consent or contractual agreement, shall always set forth the specific circumstances under which the CIS Trademarks, Logos, and Corporate Name may be used. Unlimited authority shall not be granted.

  3. Right to Inspect and Approve/Disapprove - CIS shall always retain the right to request materials that use the CIS Trademarks, Logos, and Corporate Name for review and approval or disapproval of the mannter in which a third pary is utilizing the CIS Trademarks, Logos, and Corporate Name. In the event that CIS discovers that a third party's use of the CIS Trademarks, Logos, and Corporate Name violoates these Guidelines or violates the terms of a written agreement between CIS and a third party, CIS shall always retain the right to require that third pary to immediately cease and desist from using the CIS Trademarks, Logos, and Corporate Name.

  4. CIS Membership Mark - The right to use the CIS Membership Mark shall be granted only to those CIS Category 1 and 2 Members whose memberships are active and in good standing with CIS. At the time of membership enrollment, CIS shall provide new and eligible members with the authorization to use the CIS Membership Mark, including the following specific parameters within which the eligible members shall be authorized to use the CIS Membership Mark:
    1. The Member's right to use the CIS Membership Mark shall continue only so long as they remain active members in good standing with CIS;
    2. The Member's right to use the CIS Membership Mark is limited to use on the Member's website and/or in the Member's marketing materials solely for the purpose of signifying CIS membership;
    3. The Member's right to use the CIS Membership Mark specifically does not include use of the CIS Membership Mark to signify that the Member's product, systems, or services are certified by CIS in any way; and that
    4. The Member's use of the CIS Membership Mark signifies the Member's agreement to cooperate with CIS in monitoring the use of the CIS Membership Logo by supplying CIS with specimens of materials or links to websites that use the CIS Membership mark for CIS's review and approval, whenever requested by CIS from time to time.

  5. CIS Sofware Certification Mark - The CIS Software Certification Mark shall only be used by third parties who have entered into a Certification, Testing, and Licensing Agreement with CIS and who have received CIS's express written notice that their products have passed testing and are authorized to place CIS's Software Certification Mark on those products.

  6. CIS Configuration Certification Mark - The CIS Configuration Certification mark shall only be used by third parties who have entered into an OEM Agreement with CIS and to designate that the third parties' operating systems and/or platforms will be sold pre-configured with a particular CIS Security Benchmark.

  7. CIS Company Logo and Corporate Name - Except for the following situations, the CIS Company Logo and/or Corporate Name shall only be used by CIS:
    1. Consultant Distribution Agreements. Subject to a Consultant Distribution Agreement, third parties may be allowed to use the CIS Company Logo and/or Corporate Name as it is currently packaged with CIS Benchmarks or Scoring Tools.
    2. OEM Agreements. Subject to an OEM Agreement, a third party who is oncorporating some or all of a CIS Benchmark or Scoring Tool into the third party's product may be allowed to use the CIS Company Logo and/or Corporate Name as it is currently packaged in the specified Benchmarks or Scoring Tools.
    3. Endorsement/Partnership Agreements. Subject to CIS' express written permission, CIS may provide a third party with the right to use CIS' Company Logo and/or Corporate Name to signify an endorsement or partnership relationship between CIS and the third pary.
