08/22/2000 -- CIS concept conceived at meeting of industry and government leaders.

10/01/2000 -- CIS chartered as a 501 (c)(4) corporation.

10/12/2000 -- First member enrolled.

12/30/2000 -- 128 members enrolled.

03/01/2001 -- First tool (PatchWork) released.

03/2001 - 04/2002 -- 6 Benchmarks and Scoring Tools released for Major operating system and router platforms.

07/17/2002 -- Windows 2000 Professional Gold Standard Benchmark and Scoring Tool released at press conference attracting national media converage.

07/30/2002 -- 210 members enrolled (21 Vendors, 84 Users, 105 Individuals).

09/09/2002 -- The General Services Administration awards a contract with CIS to distribute the Benchmarks and Scoring Tools to all Federal government agencies and departments via FedCIRC.

01/01/2003 -- Level 2 Benchmark for Windows 2000 Server released.

07/09/2003 -- Dell Computer begins offering desktop and notebook computers with the operating system configured based on the CIS Level-1 Benchmark for Windows 2000.

07/2001 - 08/2003 -- CIS Benchmark and tool downloads exceed 400,000.

09/05/2003 -- GSA awards CIS a follow-on contract to continue the master license arrangement for federal agencies established in September 2002.

09/23/2003 -- Level 1 & 2 Benchmark for the Oracle Database released.
